Due to health complications, Chalupa resigned from the Prague Hamburg Rowing Race
Prague, October 6th - Extreme race Prague Hamburg Rowing Race is only halfway ahead, the legend of Czech rowing and the winner of The Thomas Keller Price for lifelong contribution to rowing Václav Chalupa will, unfortunately, not finish the race. He has to resign from the race because of strong backache.
On Friday, the rowers finished the sixth stage of the race, that means they are halfway through the route Prague-Hamburg, where they should arrive on October 11th.The single skiff race was a lifelong challenge for the Olympic medallist Václav Chalupa. Now only the founder of the regatta Aleš Nejedlo and the chairman of Czech Rowing Association Dušan Macháček are trying to get into Guinness Book of Records. Both of them with a single skiff, which nobody has ever done before.
“Unfortunately, health complications did not allow me to finish the race. So the guys did even start the seventh stage without me. It's a huge challenge, and I want the Guinness's record for them. I will also support the race in the future. I wanted to introduce rowing as a recreational sport in this way and I think I was successful”, says Olympic medallist Václav Chalupa.
“Vašek had to resigned from the race. The sixth - the longest stage was challenging for all of us and his back got the worst of it. He was in such a pain that he could not continue. All of us are sorry, but health is the most important thing right now”, says Aleš Nejedlo, the founder of the regatta.
A unique project is supported by the cities of Prague and Hamburg as well as all the stage cities along the route. The main partner of the race is the CPIcompany, we would also like to thank Prague City Hall, which provided the grant and last but not least the Prague 1, under whose auspices a one-week workshop took place at Střelecký Island, which preceded the race.
